4 - 키나발루산 정상 Low's Peak 에

라반라타 산장에서 3km되는 거리에 있는 키나발루산 정상 로스 피크까지 오르는 길은 새벽 2시반에 시작된다. 랜턴을 들고 깜감한 밤길을 걷는 것도 처음이지만 이슬이 맺혀 미끄러운 바위가 여간 조심스럽지가 않았다. 처음 오르는 구간은 경사가 심한 나무사다리이거나 비탈진 바위를 기어 가다시피 하는 릿지 산행이였다. 정상을 오른후에 내려올 때에는 아무것도 아닌 것 같던 길이 이렇게 어렵게 느낄 수가 없었다. 그야말로 세발 걷고 쉬고 세발 걷고 쉬는 그런 산행이였다. 이미 고도는 4,000m나 되어 잘 못하면 고산병을 자초할 수 있다. 일행중 한명은 고산병으로 머리가 아파 고생을 심하게 하고 있었다.  

We started climbing the ridge at 2 o'clock heading for the Low's Peak which is 3 kilo meters (or 1.85 miles) away from the Laban Rata Lodge. Though every climber is using head lantern to light steps ahead it called for extreme caution because the rock ridge was wet and slippery due to morning dew.

The peak behind me is the Low's Peak (4,095.2 M or 13,514 ft), the summit of Mt. Kinabalu.

정상에 오른 우리 일행이 감격하고 있다. 힘들었던 일을 다 잊고 있다.
At last, after three hours struggling I barely reached the summit of Low's Peak at 6:30 am. The guys are the team members.

바람이 강하게 불어 가만히 서 있기 힘들었다.
The wind on the top was so strong that I could not stand still a while.
정상 주위에 있는 연봉들 모두 거대한 바위 한 덩어리. 산 만큼 크다고 하다는 말이 생각난다.
The peaks are literally just one huge piece of grey rock. It was a magnificent spectacle.

정상에 올라 감격하는 것도 순간, 이제 내려가야한다. 정상에 올랐다 하산하는 산꾼들...
The dramatic emotion is momentarily. All had to discend.
하얀 로프가 길을 안내한다. 한없이 내랴가야 하는 길을...
The white rope again lead people the way down to the base.

바위 색갈이나 모양세가 참 특이하게 생겼다.
The color of the rock is unique and has a color of mud.
