This is the Statue of King Sejong which was most recently established on Sejong street in Seoul in commemoration of his administrative records. The King Sejong invented Korean alphabets (Hangul)in 1443 which consist of 14 consonants; ㄱ ㄴ ㄷ ㄹ ㅁ ㅂ ㅅ ㅇ ㅈ ㅊ ㅋ ㅌ ㅍ ㅎ and 10 vowels; ㅏ ㅑ ㅓ ㅕ ㅗ ㅛ ㅜ ㅠ ㅡ ㅣ. Before the Hangul was invented and published by the King Sejong, Koreans generally used Chinese charectors that was difficult to use due to actually unmatched with Korean words. Although the Hangul was made by the King and he tried to educate people about the Hangul to use, it took hundreds years and it is presumed that Hangul began to be used by public in 18th century.
