워싱톤주 킹카운티 하이브리드 버스 500대 발주

Hybrid transit bus deployments are picking up steam all across North America. King County, in Washington, has placed an order for 500 new Orion VII diesel-electric hybrid buses from Daimler Buses North America.

 

King County already has an extensive fleet of hybrid buses and the first batch of 93 Orions are due for delivery in mid-2010. OC Transpo in the Canadian capital of Ottawa also ordered 80 more of the hybrid buses, taking its total fleet size to 177 units.

 

With its current in-service hybrid buses and the new orders, there will be over 2,900 Orion hybrids in service in North America, making Daimler the largest supplier here.

Volvo도 전기차 만든다

Volvo가 금년 가을 유럽에서 실지시험용으로 V70 스테이션 웨건으로 플러그-인 하이브리드를 여러대 만들고 있다고 한다.  이 차는 리티움-이온 배터리 팩을 사용하는데 배터리는 인디아나에 있는 Ener1가 공급한다. 11.3 kWh 배터리 팩으로  31마일을 주행할 수 있으며 후륜구동이다. 배터리가 소모되면 일반 디젤엔진으로 전륜을 구동하여 주행을 계속한다.

아직은 이 차가 브레이크 작동시 재충전을 하는 시스템(regenerating system)을 사용하는지는 알려지지 않았다. 만약 그렇다면, Peugeot가 HYbrid4라는 이름으로 개발하고 있는 것과 비슷한 hybrid system과 같은 것이다. Volvo는 2012년 까지 plug-in hybrid system의 생산을 계획이다.

 

Volvo와의 협력이 Ener1에게는 좋은 일이며, 동 회사의 스칸디나비아 파트너 노르웨이의 전기자동차 메이커 Th!nk EV에 대한 언급은 없었지만, 어떤 경우라도 Th!nk에 영향을 줄 것이라고 믿을 만한 이유는 없다. Th!nk는 개발을 계속하는데 현재 재정적으로 많은 문제가 있다.

 

환경 오염의 주범 배출가스를 줄이고 자원 고갈에 대한 대책으로 전기자동차 개발이 해법으로 더욱 대세가 확실해 지고 있다. 닛산 자동차의 CEO 카를로스 곤 회장은 닛산의 전기자동차 Leaf 를 소개하면서 전기자동차 개발에 올인하겠다고 했다. 하이브리드는 틈새 시장이라고도 언급한바 있다.
