진정한 City Car

City Car를 다자인하는 사람들은 어떤 것을 제일 중요시 할까? 비바람으로 부터의 보호, 실내 에어컨과 편의성, 저장성 확보, 충돌시 안전성.. 가장 배출 가스를 적게 배출하고 경제적인 방법은 없을까? 등등...

 

MIT에서 연구를 하고 있다면 1,000 파운드 미만의 중량에 Smart 카보다도 적은 공간에 주차를 할 수 있고 휘발류 1갤런에 150 에서 200 마일(63 ~ 85km/L) 까지 달릴 수 있는 그런 차에 해답 (MIT's 2007 city car concept) 을 찾을 것이다.

 

이런 최근의 컨셉에 MIT 는 중앙 파워트레인 출력 시스템에서 소형 전기차에 4륜에 각각 모터로 주행하는 컨셉으로 바뀌었으며, 15분이면 재충전이 가능한 리티움-이온 배터리에서 출력이 나온다고 했다.

 

바퀴에 부착된 모터를 사용함으로써 자동차를 사용하지 않을 때에는 자동차를 길이를 줄여 접을 수 있다. 그래서 복잡한 도시 환경에서 전기차의 영향을 최소화할 수 있다고 한다. 이렇게 하여 보통 차 한대를 주차할 수 있는 공간에 세대를 주차할 수 있다고...

아직은 이 프로젝트가 초기 단계이기 때문에 실현 가능성에 보다도 MIT의 발상의 전환에 박수를 보낸다. 일반적으로 시골의 생활에서 도시 생활로 바뀌는 추세에 이런 전가차가 곧 필요하게 될 것이다.

애기봉에서 북녘땅이 손에 잡힐 듯- North Korea within Arm's Reach

어린 보이스카웃 대원들과 성인 참가자들이 이 애기봉에 도착하니 작은 전망대가 있는 곳이 꽉 들어찼다.

DMZ접경 트레킹- 애기봉에서 이북땅을 보다

점심식사는 주최측이 나눠준 군용 비상식 버섯 비빔밥, 알루미늄 포일 봉지에 들어있는 밥에 물을 부으면 5분안에 익는 비상식을 낚씻터 주위에 아무렇게나 앉아 먹고있다.10년 전에 금강산 갈 때 먹어본 경험이 있다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DMZ 접경 트레킹 행사

문화공보부 산하 사단법인 대한 레저스포츠협의회가 주최하는 G20 성공 개최를 기원하는 '2010년 DMZ 접경 트레킹대회' 소식을 듣고 참가 신청을 했었다. 출발 장소는 김포 조각공원에서 목적지 애기봉까지 총 트레킹 거리는 6.8km. 일산과 김포를 오가는 완행 시외버스를 8시 조금지나 잡아 타고 조각공원에 도착한 시각은 9시 5분쯤. 3,000 명쯤 참가할 것이라고 최근 취임한 김종곤 협의회 회장이 말한다.

재미있는 주말 영어공부

 

미국은 탈세하고는 못 사는 나라다. IRS의 인원과 조직이 방대해서 세금 탈루하는 것을 하나도 빼지 않고 귀신 같이 잡아내기 때문에 나온 조크 하나 ....

 

Frank and Maybelle, an old couple who owned a small business, were sitting together on an airplane flying on their first vacation to Europe.

Halfway through their trip the Captain announces: "Ladies and Gentlement, I am afraid I have some terrible news. We're experiencing engine trouble and this plane will be forced to land immediately! Luckily, I see an island below us that should be able to accomoate our landing."

A few minutes later the plane lands safely on the island and everyone deplaned and begins the task of figuring out what to do next. After a while old Frank turns to his wife and says "This Island appears to be unchartered and desolate. In fact the Captain is unable to find it on any of his maps. so the odds are that we will never be rescued and will have to live on the island for a very long time, if not for the rest of our lives this is horrible, simply horrible!"  OTL

After a few minutes his wife Maybelle asks, "Did we pay our quarterly Federal income tax yet?"

"No, what a silly thing to ask now!" says Frank.

She replies, "Did you remember to mail off State taxes before we left?"

"No, I forgot to send the check, so what! Let em rot!"

"One last thing," says Maybelle, "Did you remember to send the property tax check this month?"

"Nope, I'm afraid that I forgot that one too! And your point is?"

Maybelle begins to grin. "So what are you smiling about?" an exasperated Frank asks.

"They'll find us!" says Maybelle.

 

 

나이먹은 프랭크와 베이벨 부부가 처음으로 갖는 유럽 휴가 여행차 비행기에 나란히 앉았다. 반쯤 날아 갔을까, 기장이 긴급 기내 방송을 한다. "신사 숙년 여러분, 지금 심각한 문제가 발생한 것 같습니다. 엔진에 고장이 생겨 긴급 비상 착륙을 해야겠습니다. 다행히도 저 아래 섬이 보여 그곳에 착륙할만한 자리가 보입니다."

 

잠시 후에 비행기는 안전하게 착륙했고 모든 승객은 비행기에서 내려 이제 어떻게 해야할지를 궁리하고 있었다. 조금 있다 영감 프랭크는 자기 부인한테 말했다. " 이 섬은 등록도 되어있지 않은 무인도 같은데.  기장은 사용하던 지도에는 이 섬이 없었는 모양이야. 그러니 아무도 우리를 구조하러 올 것 같지 않은데 여기서 오래동안 살아야 하는 것 아닌가..  앞으로 살날이 끔찍하겠구만"

 

잠시 있다가 할멈 메일벨이 영감한테 묻는다. "우리가 떠나기 전에 분기 소득세는 납부했나요?"

 

"안냈는데, 이 상황에 무슨 뚱단지 소리야?" 프랭크가 말했다.

 

그녀가 대꾸하기를 " 그럼 휴가 떠나기 전에 주세(州稅)는 냈나요?"

 

"아니, 수표를 보내는 것을 잊어먹었네, 냅둬."

 

"그럼 하나만 더 물어요. 이달 재산세 내는 수표는 보냈나요?" 라고 메이벨이 물었다.

 

"그것도 잊어 먹었던 것 같네. 근데 왜 묻지?" 라고 영감 프랭크가 묻는데

 

메이벨 할망구가 미소를 짓고 시작하자 " 당신 지금 왜 웃고그래?" 역정을 내며 말했다.

 

"걱정 말아야요, 국세청에서 우리를 찾아내고 말테니.. " 라고 메이벨이 말했다.

 

도요타 친환경차로 미국시장에서 승부를

도요타 자동차는 미국시장에서 판매를 늘리기 위해 더 많은 하이브리드, 플러그-인 하이브리드, 전기차, 수소연료 자동차를 출시하겠다고 한다. 또한 도요타는 미국에서 판매되는 모든 도요타 모델과 싸이언(Scion)브랜드 모델에 대해 25,000 마일 2년 무상 수리를 제공한다고 발표했다. 이는 금년 초에 발표했던 도요타 차종에 대한 2년 무상 수리를 확대 적용하므로써 시장 점유를 늘리기 위해서 더 많은 차종과 서비스 인센티브를 추가하는 것이다.

 

다른 자동차 메이커들은 이제 친한경 자동차 개발 과정에 있던가 컨셉 카를 모터쇼에 출품하는 수준인데 도요타는 이미 여러 종류의 친환경(하이브리드, 플러그-인 하이브리드, 전기차, 수소연료차 등) 차를 상용화할 수 있는 단계에 있다는 것을 주목해야 한다.

도요타는 2010년 1월~9월까지 판매가 1.1% 증가해서 1,300,000대를 판매한 반면에 Ford는 21% 증가했고 현대는 20%나 판매가 전년보다 증가한 것에 자극을 받은 것 같다. 도요타는 미씨씨피에 있는 신축 공장에 소형차 코롤라(Corolla)와 수요가 늘고있는 트럭 (픽컵) 생산을 늘리기 위해 10억 달러를 투자한다고 발표했다.

도요타는 미국 소비자들의 입맛에 맞추기 위해 현지 디자이너와 엔지니어를 더 많이 채용하기로 했다고 한다. 이 회사는 2013년에는 2백만대 판매를 목표하고있다.

소나타 NHTSA 충돌시험 최상 등급 판정 획득

미국의 고속도로 교통안전 국(NHTSA)의 충돌 시험에서 BMW 5 씨리즈와 현대 소나타가 새로운 등급제에서 최상등급(☆☆☆☆☆)을 받았다고 전한다. 우리나라 일부 삐뚤어진 비판 세력들이 날조하는 소나타 차체는 알루미늄 포일이라고 비아냥거리는 사람들은 이 기사를 보았으면 하는 바램으로 여기 오토모티브 뉴스에 오른 기사를 따 올린다.

(Bloomberg) -- BMW AG's 5 series and Hyundai Motor Co.'s Sonata got the highest rating among passenger cars and trucks tested for crashes under a new U.S. rating sysWASHINGTON tem.

Female crash-test dummies were added to the male figures for the first time as the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rated 34 models under a redesigned testing regime, the regulatory agency said today in a statement.

BMW's four-door, rear-wheel-drive 5 Series and the latest model of Hyundai's Sonata were the only vehicles in the first batch rated to receive five stars, the top overall safety score. Both vehicles scored five stars on side-crashes and rollovers and four stars in frontal crashes

"Through new tests, better crash data, and higher standards, we are making the safety ratings tougher and more meaningful for consumers," Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in the statement.

Nissan Motor Co.'s Versa received the lowest overall rating of two stars, scoring four stars in rollovers, three in frontal crashes and two in side crashes.

The new crash tests include dummies representing women, who tend to be smaller than the male figures used exclusively in the past and may be harmed differently in an accident, according to NHTSA. The new dummies also collect data about injuries to the chest, head, neck and legs while the old ones measured only chest damage.

NHTSA has also begun compiling an overall rating for each model for the first time rather than reporting only the front, side and rollover collision results.

Automakers had questioned the redesigned safety ratings because they aren't directly comparable to the ratings they replaced, potentially creating confusion.

The agency said it is continuing to test cars and trucks and plans to add the results as they are complete to its website at safercar.gov.

In a statement, the National Automobile Dealers Association said: “We support the federal government's efforts to enhance safety information to allow for more informed purchasing decisions by vehicle shoppers."

The NADA said it would provide dealers with information about these points:

• New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) scores for model year 2011 may be lower than for previous models of the same vehicles, but that does not mean they are less safe, the NADA said.

• NCAP scores for 2011 and later vehicles should not be compared to those for previous model years, the NADA said.

• Overall ratings scores reflect a weighted average of the three crash test results. All new vehicles are subject to rigorous Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, the NADA said.

• The NCAP label will not be updated until the 2012 model year. The best source of NCAP information is www.safercar.gov.

• Only 50 or so models are NCAP tested in a given model year, the NADA said. Test results are made public as they become available.
